Website Design – The First Thing You Need to Know

Website design is a diverse field.

Along with different types of websites, many questions arise like whether to go for:

  • A website with a custom design?
  • An SEO-optimized website?
  • A website based on an existing template?

And lots of other concepts and questions that probably some of you do not always know the answers to.

So how do you find your way around the endless possibilities and make the right decisions?

In short, have a clear overall picture.

Let’s start by saying your website should promote your business.

Don’t build a website if you are not going to use it or promote it.

There are quite a few website design companies and business owners with an “I have a website, therefore, I am” mindset.

If you have a website but with no visitors what did you accomplish? To say the least, not much.

So before you make a decision about which site to build and with which provider, look at the bigger picture and understand how this website is going to fit into your day-to-day marketing operations.

Think what are the goals of the site? Are you going to sell through the site? Would you like to receive inquiries from relevant customers (leads)? How are you going to promote the site and get traffic to it? How is the site going to help the salespeople? Can the site improve the service and help existing customers? And more.

If you are interested in investing in digital marketing with the understanding that it is the first growth engine for your business, then yes, it is very important that you have a website that is built correctly and that will serve you for years to come.

It’s mostly a matter of decision.

So after we cleared this point off the table… 😊

To the question that interests everyone..

How Much Does It Cost to Develop a Website?

First of all, this question is problematic, to say the least.

It’s like asking how much does a vacation abroad cost? ..

Depends on where exactly? Which places are you going to travel to? What are you going to do there? Etc.

That’s why we do a basic website specification before we give a quote.

The price is eventually a derivative of the working hours that are expected to be invested in the project.

Each website design project consists of project management hours, design hours, and programming hours, so the cost of building a website can reach as much as one hundred thousand shekels and more.

It’s all according to the needs, customer requirements, and website specifications.

What Is the Process of Website Design?

The process of building a website consists of 4 steps:

    • Specification
    • Design
    • Development
    • Launch

    Website Specification

As part of the website specification process, we study your business and marketing problems in order to recommend the best website design solution for you.

We aim to find a solution that will serve as a growth engine in your ongoing digital marketing activity in the long term.

You can read more about website specification here.

    Website Design

There are two main options regarding the actual design of a website:

    1.  Template-Based Website – You can build a website based on an existing template when there is a desire to save costs and shorten development times. Choose a template that suits the specification of your website and that you like its visibility. Using a template is a legitimate way of developing a website that can deliver great results.
    2.  Custom Design Website – The alternative is a custom-designed website. A site whose design begins with sketches of the user interface (UI), the structure of the pages, and the various elements, down to the colors and the visual language. Here there is a lot of space for creativity, greater flexibility in the process and a more precise adjustment to your needs.

Custom website design is a very high-quality process and produces an excellent result, but significantly more expensive.

    Web Development

    There are two options here.

Either develop the site from scratch with custom code or use all kinds of web development tools and various plugins (like Elementor), commonly used in templates.

If using a template, it is very important to check in advance the compatibility of the website to different devices (responsive version) and the content management system (CMS) of the website.

    Website Launch

Website launch is a relatively simple operation in which a DNS redirect is generated from your domain to the storage server.

Then, within 72 hours (at the most) your website will be up and running.

If you are making a transfer or migration from an old website, it is also important to make 301 redirects from the “old to new” pages in order to keep your rankings in search engine results and to make sure your old website links will still work.

How Long Does It Take to Build a Website?

This is an important question that you should ask before deciding on a website design provider.

To align expectations, in every website design quote we write down a Gantt / work plan and a schedule according to the milestones of the project.

Usually, a template-based corporate website takes around a month of work to a complex e-commerce website that can take 3-6 months of work.

What Types of Websites We Design?

    Corporate Websites

A Corporate website is like a showcase of your business on the Internet.

Its purpose is to tell the story of your brand, clarify what value and the services/products you provide, generate preference and credibility in front of your website visitors, and more.

A Corporate website can be used to get a first impression of your business, but even after a physical meeting or phone call with potential customers, in many cases, they will continue to look for information about you and visit your website.

Therefore, many times a corporate website also serves as a deal-closer.

In addition, a corporate website can be used as a means of improving service to existing customers.

Customers can contact through the site, get contact information, learn about services or products they have, and easily recommend to friends by sending the website’s link.

    E-commerce Websites

The purpose of an E-commerce website is first and foremost – to sell.

An E-commerce website consists of a product catalog, a shopping cart, and a purchase and payment process. It is necessary to start selling through the Internet.

E-commerce websites are more expensive and their construction process is relatively complex, especially in cases where there are many product categories with different variations. For example, different colors and sizes, special adjustments that can be made, etc.

In the process of specifying an E-commerce website, it is very important to take into account what the ongoing promotion of the site is going to look like and in what marketing channels you are going to operate.

It all should be reflected in the website adaptation to organic promotion (SEO) and in a measurement framework, one that will allow you to know what the return on investment (ROI) is for each marketing channel.

    Blog Websites

Blog websites mostly focus on content around a particular topic.

For example, you can see this site as a kind of blog site since there is quite a lot of investment in content around digital marketing.

Blog websites have a relatively simple structure, sometimes with no defined business purpose.

As of 2021, the WordPress platform is the most common in developing blog websites.

    Directory Websites

There are organizations, usually academic institutions, associations, or think tanks of various kinds, that produce enormous amounts of content over the years.

In order to make the content accessible in a way that allows easy navigation and orientation, the website is built in the form of a directory.

    What does this actually mean?

There are many options for searching and locating content, Such as search by tags, article publication times, content categories, author names, content types, various topics, research departments, and more.

These are usually very expensive websites with a lot of investment in data arrangement.

    Portfolio Websites

A portfolio website comes to display your portfolio and the focus is usually on images.

Just like in a physical gallery. A portfolio website is very suitable for artists, graphic designers, architects, interior designers, etc.

The structure of the website is very simple and is usually built from a home page and gallery pages with each one showing pictures, videos, and sometimes and short project description text.

Used as a kind of corporate website but in a format that puts the focus on visuals and user experience.
